Virginia enforces the IECC through the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code (USBC). Third-party testing is required to confirm building envelope and duct system performance.

Virginia Air Leakage Standard

Most of Virginia is:

• Climate Zone 4

• Western regions: Climate Zone 5

Current typical requirement:

• ≤ 5 ACH50 (varies by adoption cycle and locality)

Blower Door testing is required prior to final inspection.

Virginia Duct Leakage Standard

Duct systems must meet:

• ≤ 4 CFM per 100 sq ft (Rough-In), or

• ≤ 8 CFM per 100 sq ft (Final)

Proper documentation must be submitted to code officials.
