Duct Leakage Testing

Duct leakage testing measures air leakage within HVAC duct systems to verify compliance with the International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) and applicable local requirements.

A calibrated duct blaster fan is connected to the duct system and used to pressurize the ducts independently from the building envelope. Air leakage is measured to determine total duct leakage or leakage to outdoors, as required by the jurisdiction.

Duct leakage testing is typically required for new residential construction, multifamily buildings, and major HVAC installations prior to permit close-out and final inspection approval.

Green Habitat Energy provides third-party duct leakage testing with permit-ready documentation aligned with inspector and code official expectations throughout Maryland and the Mid-Atlantic region.

IECC Duct Leakage Testing (IDL)

Code Compliance for Residential Construction

The International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) establishes mandatory air sealing and duct tightness requirements for new residential construction. Blower Door and Duct Leakage (IDL) testing are required verification measures to confirm compliance prior to final inspection and certificate of occupancy.

Green Habitat Energy provides certified third-party testing services to verify IECC compliance across the Mid-Atlantic region.
